Based on the expansive lifestyle that Jada Smith leads with her spouse, Will Smith, and their two kids, one cannot help but speculate that she may have been blessed with a fulfilling life. But hold on; no one actually knows what happens beneath those sheer curtains. As we all know, everything comes at a cost, and Will Smith’s wife has had to work harder than you might think to earn every blessing she has.
Many things have impacted her difficult life, such as her marriage, battles with mental illness, the infamous 2022 Oscars, and her upbringing. Yes, the mother of two, who exposed her children to psychedelic drugs, has dealt drugs since she was a teenager and endured a difficult upbringing.
Jada Smith on Her Reasons for Being a Teen Drug Dealer
Jada Smith, 52, experienced a low point in her emotional state due to the heavy influence of drugs and addiction on her life since she was a young child. She discussed calling her mother “in a panic” and her wish to take her own life at a young age during a Red Table Talk episode.
“I had an emotional breakdown that … affected my mental stability. I had gotten to L.A. and gotten a certain amount of success and realized that [it] wasn’t the answer. That [it] wasn’t what was going to make everything okay. Actually it made things worse. And I became extremely s*icidal.”
It was also the moment she would eventually lead a double life as a budding street drug dealer, in addition to being a talented performer at school. She informed PEOPLE:
“When you aren’t the priority of your parents, you don’t know how to be a priority to yourself. I had parents who were addicted to drugs.. I knew that anything that I needed was something I needed to provide for. I decided to sell drugs. Growing up, the drug dealers were the ones that had affluence.”
According to the Red Table Talk host, her mother was a “high-functioning heroin addict”, who was “not doing well”. Because of this, her “home was not taken care of” and she “did not have the things she should have”. At twelve, she started going after “legit jobs”, but in the end, she ended up selling crack cocaine.
Meanwhile, her candidness about introducing her kids to psychedelic drugs is one facet of her life that has drawn attention.
Jada Smith Introduced Her Children To Psychedelic Drugs?
The primary motivator behind their family’s use of psychedelic drugs, according to Jaden Smith, was his mother, Jada Smith. According to USA Today, the 25-year-old The Karate Kid actor made these comments at the Psychedelic Science conference last year:
“I think it was my mom, actually, that was really the first one to make that step for the family.”
The 52-year-old host of Red Table Talk is married to Will Smith and also has a 23-year-old daughter, Willow Smith. The Grammy Award-nominated rapper-actor further shared:
“It was just her for a really, really long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved and everybody found it in their own ways.”
Jaden Smith added that taking psychedelics had a “profound” positive impact on his ability to build closer bonds with his sister and half-brother (Trey Smith). The former added:
“Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past. But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the [psychedelic] experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that’s profound and beautiful.”
Well, it is safe to say that Jada Smith’s life is a unique tapestry of adversity, unconventional choices, and, of course, personal development. Her path to success has been fraught with challenges, but she has never allowed them to define her. She even detailed her struggle with s*icidal thoughts, depression, self-acceptance, and spiritual healing in her book Worthy, which was released in October 2023.
