Had it not been for the remarkable acclaim and Oscar nomination Adams received for her captivating performance in Junebug, she might have easily faded into obscurity. In a 2013 interview with Elle UK, Adams candidly discussed the challenging period she faced following her role in Catch Me If You Can, highlighting the difficulties she encountered in her career during that time.

“I choked. I felt this pressure to suddenly be this level of actress that I wasn’t confident enough to be. I did a series of really bad auditions, I let the nerves get the best of me. And the couple of years after that it was, ‘I can’t do this. I’m not strong enough to continue with this level of rejection’. It was, “What am I going to do with my life?” I was staring down 30. I was lost, confused.”

Considering these circumstances, one can easily envision the apprehension Adams may have felt when taking on her role in Catch Me If You Can. Yet, based on Adams’ accounts of her time working on the film, it appears that she had an extraordinary and fulfilling experience.

“The thought of Steven Spielberg is a lot scarier than the actual person. He’s so nice. Driving up to the gates was overwhelming: ‘Who are you here to see?’ ‘Uh, Steven Spielberg?’ It’s just so ‘This is not my life.'”

Catch Me If You Can is available for streaming on HBO Max.
