Ryan Reynolds is one of those stars who never had a backup plan – either it was acting, or nothing. From landing a lead role in the sitcom Two Guys and a Girl in 1998 to a $1.5 billion success with Deadpool movies, Reynolds lived his only dream in toto. But again, all this stardom and fortune came after a long wave of turbulence, and at one point, the actor quit acting for a year.

Ryan Reynolds Second-Guessed His Dream Career

Before becoming America’s heart-throb, Ryan Reynolds was trying his luck working in the Canadian teen soap opera, Hillside, which was distributed in the United States as Fifteen. After a few minor roles, Reynolds landed Two Guys and a Girl, which led to the beginning of his big-screen career.

While Reynolds was improving his resume, there was a point when he became “disillusioned by the film industry,” and thought about how different things could have been if he became a teacher. He said:

“It wasn’t like I was having a very illustrious career up in Canada. I was doing all of these movie-of-the-weeks with all of these ex-Dynasty stars. It was depressing. I would have rather gone to university or become a teacher, so I did quit, I stopped acting for about a year.”

The depressing phase was, however, short-lived as he moved to Los Angeles with a friend. After landing Two Guys and a Girl, the actor went on to star in movies like Waiting, The Proposal, and Blade: Trinity. In 2011, he again faced turbulence with the massive failure of Green Lantern.

Ryan Reynolds Came Out Stronger!

After Green Lantern became the biggest box office bomb in history, Ryan Reynolds’ career fumbled for a while. The actor himself admitted representing the “death of superheroes” after the 2011 flop. But again, as some things are meant to be, Reynolds’ stars aligned as he found massive success with the X-Men films Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018).

Both films were a massive hit and garnered a whopping $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. Deadpool, for instance, earned over $782 million against a $58 million budget, breaking numerous records. The highest-grossing R-rated comedy earned Reynolds nominations at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.

The year 2017 came as a big moment after the actor was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now, Ryan Reynolds has announced the release date for Deadpool 3, which is September 6, 2024. Interestingly, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is set to appear in the movie, despite dying in Logan. Reynolds, on the other hand, is gearing up for another blockbuster.
