The 2015 action adventure film introduced Paul Rudd as the miniature Marvel superhero Ant-Man. The film did quite well at the box office, grossing over $500 million, but things do not seem to be going all too well behind the scenes. Prior to the release of the film, it was revealed that the Captain America: Civil War actor also made some contributions to the film’s script.
One of the cast members was unable to follow up with his fellow actor and the film’s lead star working on the script of the film. However, when he raised a question about the same, his concerns were overlooked, and the Knocked Up actor continued working on the script.
The Behind-the-Scenes Issues Among Ant-Man Actors
Ant-Man was Michael Douglas‘ first superhero film or a film with special effects. The 78-year-old actor was super excited to portray Hank Pym in the MCU, as he wanted to be part of the Marvel franchise. However, he got indulged in some behind-the-scenes dramas that folded out during its production.
Edger Wright was initially expected to direct the film. However, his vision for the superhero did not align with that of Marvel Studios. And he decided to leave the film entirely after the studio hired a new team to modify the script according to them. Paul Rudd also joined the writer’s team and worked on these changes.
However, the Basic Instinct star was uncomfortable with the lead actor working on the script. He shared that he was surprised to see the Clueless star as he was going through some drafts. Douglas shared that he did not expect to see him there.
“I did raise my hand a little bit because I didn’t know Paul that well. I said, excuse me, but the leading actor writing the script, uhhhh, you know, no, no we’re watching, alright fine.”
However, his opinion of his co-star changed after working with him. He shared that he could understand the pressure that comes with leading a film, as he praised the Avengers: Endgame star for giving his best in the 2015 film.
Michael Douglas Was Partially Jealous of Paul Rudd
During his appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Michael Douglas talked about featuring in a Marvel film. He shared that he was excited to join the “Marvel family.” When the show host asked him about the rumors about him being a little jealous of his co-star, Paul Rudd, as he had more action scenes than him, Douglas admitted that he was “partially” jealous.
However, he clarified that he said it humorously, as he was given more explaining dialogue, and the Ant-Man actor was able to grab the attention with his action sequences and funny dialogue.
However, he also mentioned that most of the time he has been “number one on a call sheet,” so being in a supporting role was something new for him. Both the actors reprised their roles in the threequel of the film, which was released in February this year. They are also expected to appear in future MCU films as well.
