Michael Fassbender’s Reasoning For Going Nude In Shame

It is quite a common practice in the film industry for actors to go naked for roles and characters that they play. Michael Fassbender did the same for his work in Shame. During an interview, according to IMDb, the actor revealed why he decided to do this and the reasoning was quite sentimental. He stated that his mother would always complain to him about how ridiculous it was that women were the only ones who were expected to do nude scenes in films, all the while their male co-stars stood around fully clothed.

“To be honest with you again, I think it’s the idea of male frontal nudity. It just baffles me: Women can parade around naked all the time, but the guy conveniently has his pants on. I remember my mom always complaining about that to me, saying, “This is such bullshit, it’s always the women who are naked” … so I did this one for you, Mom!”

The actor revealed that in order to help get rid of this practice in the film industry, as well as honor his mother, he decided to go fully nude in the film. He then went on to jokingly call out his mother, telling her that this one was for her.

Michael Fassbender Did Not Like How People Acted After This

Michael Fassbender told The Guardian that he wasn’t very fond of the way the media reacted after his nude scene in this film. He mentioned that there was a lot more to Shame than those scenes and he did like how those were the only things that they fixated on. He took an example of this, talking about the time he was doing an interview for the promotion of the film and the interview caught him off guard in the worst possible ways.

“Well, I guess at times I was like, ‘Well, you know there’s so much more to the film than me with my c*ck out.’ One journalist kicked things off saying, ‘So what’s it like to have a big c*ck?’ That was the first thing she said to me. And then she said that I was flirting with her in the interview. Total bullshit, you know. The whole interview was so wrong.” He looks properly offended, then shrugs.

Elaborating on this, he revealed that as soon as he sat down to do this interview, the interviewer asked him about his body. To make matters worse, she then went on to say that Fassbender was flirting with her during this interview. This entire incident really infuriated the actor, who, naturally, did not like being treated like this.
