Jessica Alba initially focused on child products when she founded The Honest Company in 2011. Over the years, the company grew into an eco-friendly, organic lifestyle brand that is focused on improving the health of its consumers. In the same field, Gwyneth Paltrow‘s Goop has been standing strong since 2008 which is a lifestyle and wellness brand.

While the two companies share a similar pattern, Alba shared that her company was much more relatable to consumers than the Iron Man actress. What made her tips more grounded was her financial background which was not strong unlike the latter.

“Gwyneth Paltrow probably lives a very similar lifestyle, but I didn’t grow up with a bunch of money, so my tips are much more grounded: repurposing things and making things at home.”

While the Fantastic Four actress belongs to a military family, Paltrow comes from a privileged family as her parents are well-known Hollywood personalities. She opened up about how motherhood helped her create this company.

“I got the idea as a first-time parent. I had an allergic reaction to a product and I did research. I found out there are a lot of potentially harmful chemicals in everyday products, from laundry detergent to beauty products to personal care products.”

On finding that there were quite a few products without harmful chemicals, she decided to take things into her hand to create eco-friendly products for consumers. The company was named after her eldest daughter Honor, who was the very reason why she went into this business in the first place. Her company is estimated to be roughly valued at around $550 million as of February last year. Meanwhile, Goop is currently worth $250 million.
