Featuring some heavy and intense action scenes (as is the nature of John Wick movies), the third installment of the franchise was no different. As per Halle Berry, the training for the movie was so difficult that in hopes of impressing Keanu Reeves, she broke 3 ribs!

When Halle Berry Broke 3 Ribs To Impress Keanu Reeves

Portraying the role of a dog-lover with two lethal German shepherds, Halle Berry had a fun time shooting John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Starring alongside Keanu Reeves, Berry let her competitive side get the better of her since she did not want to be left behind in terms of physical action.

As a result, the Die Another Day actress started training harder for her role. In an interview, Halle Berry talked about what’s it like to train for a John Wick movie. Recalling the hours and hours of various trainings, Berry also talked about her personal achievement in all of this.

“It’s hours and hours of stunt training, it’s gun training, it’s dog training, and then it’s just strength training on top of that. I wanted to be on the same level as [Keanu Reeves], I didn’t want to disappoint him, although I did get injured during rehearsal. I broke three ribs.”

She further continued,

“Chad hates when I bring this up, but it’s like a badge of honor for me. We don’t know how it happened really. I kept going for a little while with the broken ribs and then [Chad said] ‘maybe we should stop.’”

As per the actress, the injury was so bad that Halle Berry thought that she would have to be replaced. Preparing herself for the worst, she was surprised when director Chad Stahelski did not remove her and instead waited for her to heal!

Furthering the interview, the actress revealed that her condition was so bad that she wasn’t able to continue shooting (of course). Berry stated that she had prepared herself for the worst as she realized that the show must go on and she would be replaced.

“What made me most happy is that when it happened, I thought ‘OK, I’m out of the movie. They’re going to replace me, because the show has to go on.’ But to Chad’s credit, he waited for me. We pushed the production a little bit, and I got to come back.”

Being a gentleman much like Keanu Reeves, Chad Stahelski waited for Berry to heal and then shot her scenes for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The 2019 movie earned a rating of 7.4/10 on IMDB and 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum starting Halle Berry is available to stream on AMC+.
