Throughout his career, the actor has appeared in numerous films, some of which became blockbusters while others fell short of meeting audience expectations. After the huge success of his 1994 film, Speed, fans expected the actor to reprise his role in the sequel to the film, Speed 2: Cruise Control.

His rejection of the film came as a surprise for his fans, Some even thought that Reeves had made a big mistake by turning down the film. However, the rejection turned out to be in Reeves’ favor, as the film was a bomb at the box office. Though the actor was spared from appearing in flop films here, it wasn’t very long before his films, 1995’s Johnny Mnemonic, and 1996’s Chain Reaction saw a drastic fall at the box office.

In 2000, the actor starred in the sports comedy film The Replacements. Although the film received mixed reviews, it turned out to be a loss for Reeves, as he took a substantial pay cut to ensure that the production could afford Gene Hackman.
