The most recent actor from a famous series to speak out on J.K. Rowling’s trans scandal is Evanna Lynch from Harry Potter.

The transphobic remarks by Rowling made vocal on Twitter startled the actor who played Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter movies. The actress shared her reaction in an interview with the Telegraph, Lynch also expressed her support and belief in J.K. Rowling. She said,

“I just felt that her character has always been to advocate for the most vulnerable members of society. The problem is that there’s a disagreement over who’s the most vulnerable. I do wish people would just give her more grace and listen to her.”

This statement is a comment on J.K. Rowling’s controversial tweet on the trans community. The tweet generated a lot of noise and Rowling got canceled on the internet, it also affected her professional life as she was not invited to Amazon Prime’s reunion of Harry Potter.

Apart from the golden trio Potter, Weasley and Granger there were few characters which could stand out, one of them is Luna Lovegood. Lovegood’s mysterious, calm and light personality made her standout.

She is kind, caring and genuine in contrast to selfish and narcissist characters that hoard the screen. Moreover she is the most queer character in the franchise, being one of the queer characters in the franchise Lynch’s defense for Rowling attracted heavy criticism from the netizens.

Lynch believes that J.K. Rowling’s tweets were met with unexpected criticism and ruthless hate. The internet should have heard her out and placed their trust in her instead of tearing apart fragments of the argument. Evanna Lynch is not the only Harry Potter alum to comment on the Transgender scandal, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Eddie Redmayne are just a few of the wizarding world celebrities who have spoken out against the author because of her attitude.

In early June 2020, J.K. Rowling unleashed her opinions on Twitter which endangered her professional and personal life. The writer posted some controversial and offensive tweets in regard of the Trans community. Rowling is one of the most famous, renowned, loved, and admired writers because of her book series Harry Potter.

The writer took offense at a story that refused to use gender to address humans who undergo mensuration, she posted a reply which said,

“‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?

Her response garnered a lot of hate and backlash, this, unfortunately, did not dull her spirits and she continued the war for ‘gender identities’ elaborating on her stance,

“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If s*x isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of s*x removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth,”

The thread continues,

“The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women—i.e., to male violence—‘hate’ trans people because they think s*x is real and has lived consequences—is a nonsense.”

Later, on June 10, 2020, Rowling tweeted about “TERF Wars” (TERF: trans-exclusionary radical feminist) and wrote a lengthy piece on her website. Trans activists and Harry Potter fans who had taken solace in the tale of an outsider finding a home where he belonged have taken great offense at Rowling’s original tweets and her subsequent double down.

The writer has not apologized for these comments she continues her narrative about being wrongfully framed and hated. Her recent books The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm, and Career of Evil has not done particularly well compared to Harry Potter.
