Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year for PlayStation 5 owners, if not the most anticipated, and we’re approaching the game’s release. The second main game in the series and the third overall if the Miles Morales spinoff is included, it will feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as playable characters, allowing players to switch between the two on the go.

The first game in the series, Marvel’s Spider-Man, was remastered for the PlayStation 5 and it featured one major change, namely that the face of Peter Parker had been changed. The model who had provided his likeness for the first game on the PlayStation 4 had been replaced by another, and this change was criticized by some fans. Now, Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lowenthal has shared his two cents on the change and how fans have reacted.
What did Yuri Lowenthal say about the criticism around Peter Parker’s face?
Yuri Lowenthal, who in addition to doing the voice for Peter Parker also does his motion capture, spoke to Comicbook about the whole situation. He said:
“The performance was the same for me. I got over it as soon as they said ‘Hey, we wanna make this change so that the facial animation is better.’ I said ‘I’m all in!’ I don’t care if he looks like a goblin, if my performance is better, then I’m in. I’m kind of tired of talking about it, to be honest, because I think everything that needs to be said has been said. Some people will take longer to get over it, some people will never get over it. The one positive thing I take away from this experience is that people connected emotionally so hard and so deeply in the first game that they’re mad when they feel that person changes. I can only be so mad about that because it worked, not the change thing, but you connected with the character which is great. Now, get over it!”

The reason for the change, which was stated by Lowenthal above, is that the new face of Peter Parker will be a better match for Lowenthal’s face and motion capture. The new face, first seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and then Miles Morales, will remain for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
How did Insomniac use the power of the PS5 in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?
During an interview with VG247, Ryan Smith, senior game director at Insomniac, explained how Insomniac fully used the power of the PlayStation 5 in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. He said:
“The PS5 fast loading is something that really helps us. Especially with the open-world switching – we can swap between Peter and Miles quite quickly. And these transitions give you a chance to see fun animations, too – these transitions have been a place where our animators have been able to get really creative”.
