Can you imagine someone else portraying Cassie Howard in Euphoria instead of Sydney Sweeney? It’s almost impossible to! And yet, there could’ve been a time when the 25-year-old would’ve stepped down from the role. Luckily though, that’s not what happened.
Sweeney has garnered immense acclamation for her captivating role and top-notch performance in HBO’s Euphoria and even received an Emmy nomination for the same. But The Handmaid’s Tale star had initially been hesitant about playing Cassie in the teen drama due to the amount of nudity the script required her to engage in.
Sydney Sweeney Was Uncomfortable With Nude Scenes in Euphoria
Sam Levinson’s Euphoria is a dark and gripping drama revolving around the lives of a bunch of high school students who’re struggling with the wicked allure of addiction and violence as they try to come to terms with life. One of the lead characters, Cassie Howard, is a sweet yet vulnerable girl whose gritty past haunts her ceaselessly as she tries to get through various other plights that life keeps throwing at her.
When Sydney Sweeney first got offered the role of Cassie, she was unsure about whether or not it would be the best idea to accept it since her character was involved in a lot of nude scenes, something which Sweeney wasn’t comfortable with. In a 2019 MTV News interview, The Voyeurs actress herself admitted to the same.
“There was a bit of, ‘Ooo, I don’t know if I’m gonna do this because of nudity.’”
Later though, Sweeney saw the situation with a practical mindset instead of an emotional one, and that’s when she decided to go ahead with the role.
Sydney Sweeney Received Her Family’s Support
While Sweeney had been uncertain at first, about performing so many nude scenes in Euphoria, her family on the other hand, showered her with all their love and support right from the beginning. Her grandmother even told Sweeney that she had the “best t*ts in Hollywood.” What more do you need than your grandma’s approval that you’re hot?
During the show’s premiere, the Nocturne actress had invited her entire family to celebrate. However, amid all the excitement and adrenaline, Sweeney had completely forgotten to give them a heads-up about her nude scenes in Euphoria.
Fortunately enough though, they handled it in the best way possible and took it extremely well. They were practically unfazed! “My parents and my family, they’re really proud,” Sweeney remarked on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Everything certainly seems to have turned out for the best.
