Robert Pattinson’s preparation for Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Robert Pattinson, age 36, got his big break with the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He played Cedric Diggory, who represented Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Triwizard Tournament, along with Harry Potter. The character was understated but very carefully curated with attention to detail.

In a press conference, the actor revealed that he was well-prepared for the audition. The Twilight Saga star shared,

“I read the book before the audition, and there wasn’t any part of the character which I didn’t think I could play. And the thing is — I don’t know if that’s arrogant or not, but I just felt quite at ease with it. And I went into my second audition really confident. Like, I read it in a day and I just thought, ‘Ah yeah, I could do that.’ And so I went in, and I think that confidence helped a lot with getting the part.”

“I just really wanted to do it really well because I’m still young and everything, and a relatively inexperienced actor. And because there were so many famous actors in it. I was just concentrating a lot and I put quite a lot of work into it at the beginning, and so I kind of ignored all my nerves just by sitting, looking at the script, and reading the book like 10 times all the time. Which was probably pointless.”

Robert Pattinson gained worldwide recognition for playing the role of Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga.

“I worked hard to get Hermione, and my mum has a video I did for the first audition and she has me doing the same take over and over, like 27 times from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon and I was just relentless. I wasn’t sure I wanted to act, but I was sure I wanted this part.”

The casting director for Harry Potter, Janet Hirshenson revealed in an interview with HuffPost, that there was competition for the role of Hermione during the auditions. Among those considered for the role was Madeline star Hatty Jones. The casting director recalled that Emma Watson was a bit intimidated to see Jones,

“There was another little girl that we tested who had just done I think Madeline. She had done a big movie, and she was quite Hermione-ish, so I think Emma saw her at the auditions and went, ‘Oh, well, I got no chance. There’s her.”

As per the interview, Janet Hirshenson added that everyone was blown away by Watson’s audition and ability to captivate the audience.
