David Corenswet On The Explicit Scenes Of Hollywood

In an interview, David Corenswet shared his insights on the Netflix series Hollywood, sharing that the initial script of the series included a pretty decent amount of steamy and edgy scenes. As he delved into the details, Corenswet explained that the script contained explicit and descriptive scenes, focusing extensively on s*x and intimate encounters. The Pearl star even added that he was in self-doubt after reading certain scenes which as per him were not meant for television purposes.

“A little edgier is putting it way mild. I don’t know if this is appropriate, but I mean, it was like soft-to-medium-core p*rn. It was very explicit and very descriptive. There were pages and pages just describing the sex and the intimate encounters. There were some things that you just knew, reading it, that were not going to show up on the screen. It’s like, ‘That’s not what we do on television.’ And you could understand the point of that is more to describe for the actors what the characters are experiencing, but with Netflix and Ryan, you never know because there aren’t any rules.”

David Corenswet Justifies The Initial Explicit Scenes Of Hollywood

Despite the explicit nature of the original script, the depiction of s*x scenes in Hollywood did not deter Corenswet from joining the series. The House of Cards actor found himself drawn to the way s*x was utilized as a creative tool to explore the characters’ desires, fantasies, and motivations. By showcasing the base instincts and cravings of these glamorous icons, the series, as per Corenswet, aimed to highlight the universal aspect of human desires across different eras, adding depth and relatability to the characters.

“Now, in the first conversation, Ryan said, “I want to do it tastefully.” In reading it, the reason I wasn’t immediately turned off — no pun intended — by the whole thing was one of the points of the show was to take these glamorous icons and show those people having all the base instincts and fantasies and cravings and kinks that anybody has in any era.”
