While the two often stay in conversation regarding their professional and personal life, they have also made plenty of headlines for their years-long rivalry. The actor has performed some of the most dangerous stunts in his action flicks, ranging from a motorcycle jump to the car in Knight and Day to a jump off a cliff. However, Brad Pitt doesn’t believe that all that counts as being brave enough.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actor claimed to be braver than the Mission Impossible star, stating that he might be able to hang on the side of an airplane for his movie, but he’ll probably not be able to do what he did in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

“Tom Cruise, my friend, will tie himself to the side of an airplane, and it will take off and land,” he said before adding, “I put apple sauce on my neck so a pitbull would give me love and affection. I don’t know who’s braver.” It has continued to be a topic of discussion among fans, considering that Cruise was initially considered for Brad Pitt’s character in the 2019 film.

Brad Pitt starred as a stunt double Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He also won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Cliff Booth in the film. However, he was almost replaced by the action star Tom Cruise, who was reportedly considered for the role before Pitt landed the part.

During his appearance in the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the director shared that he wanted to cast The Mummy star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, and they even “talked about it.” While he claimed that they really “hit it off” during the meeting, things did not go the way Tarantino expected them to.

The director then approached the Bullet Train star during the early stages of pre-production and decided to cast him in the role of Cliff Booth. And it is hard to answer whether or not the action star would have done the scene that led Pitt to claim that he’s braver than him.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is available on Prime Video.
