Javier Bardem and Timothée Chalamet first worked together in 2021’s Dune helmed by Denis Villeneuve and subsequently reprised their roles as Stilgar and Paul Atreides, respectively, in the sequel. As they have spent a lot of time together, Bardem discovered something about the young star.
The Spanish-born actor rose to fame for his roles in No Country for Old Men and Vicky Christina Barcelona. As one of the older cast members, he admitted working with younger actors on the set of Dune radiated a different kind of energy.
Dune Star Javier Bardem Reveals Timothée Chalamet’s True Colors
In his interview with WIRED magazine, 55-year-old actor Javier Bardem shared his experience working with Timothée Chalamet. They shared a lot of screen time in Dune: Part Two since his character is a mentor to the protagonist.
“I’m always saying that Timothée must have a very high IQ. He’s so smart. The way he behaves on set and with others, the way he carries his own weight, it’s very healthy. It’s very inspiring in the sense that I don’t see confusion, I don’t see manipulation.”
He revealed there was not a single hint of fakeness in the French-American star’s personality. In addition, he exuded virtues of conviction for the job and passion for the franchise.
“I don’t see any of the dark sides of the coin that success at that level brings. The opposite. I see clearness, I see honesty, I see transparency, I see commitment, and I see a lot of gratitude.”
Although he admits being closer to co-star Josh Brolin, evidently because of their ages, he said that the younger members of the cast were a delight to watch.
“With Timothée, Zendaya, Florence, and Austin, I was always a spectator of their beautiful energy, of their beautiful commitment, of the way they were bonding with each other through their joy.”
Bardem’s Stilgar had minor exposure in the first Dune movie, but he gets to shine more in the sequel even though he’s not in the starring role. Indeed, the character has a significant impact on Paul Atreides.
Timothée Chalamet And Javier Bardem Had Parties In Between Filming Breaks
Even though there is a generational gap between Javier Bardem and the younger actors of Dune, he makes sure to join in on the fun. In an article by Elle magazine, Timothée Chalamet revealed Bardem was game and ready for a wrap-up party:
“There was a super legit f—king wrap party at the end there. We were with some of the cast, and then Javier [Bardem] came in and we were all dancing. You [Zendaya] have Polaroids of that moment, right? That was a full-on dance party.”
Moments like this made Bardem realize how fun it was to be with the whole cast of Dune. He got to know each member well, especially Chalamet, and it was indeed a pleasant experience for the actor to know someone of genuine character.
Dune: Part Two is now showing in theaters.
