Natalie Dormer is stepping into the spotlight with a bold take on ‘women objectification’ on TV. The Game of Thrones star ain’t buying into Chris Pratt’s call for men to be objectified as much as women. In a chat with the Radio Times (via The Guardian), Dormer flipped the script, saying both genders face scrutiny on screen. She noted,

My personal experience has been to work on phenomenal jobs in which the men are objectified as much as the women.

The 42-year-old British actress’ comments came amidst a broader discussion on objectification in entertainment. While the Guardians of the Galaxy actor argued for equal objectification to balance the scales and Kevin Bacon humorously advocated for more male nudity, Dormer remained skeptical.

She defended Game of Thrones’ portrayal of s*x and violence, asserting that the show’s raw and naturalistic approach is integral to its storytelling. In an interview with the Telegraph, Dormer stated:

I think s*x and romance is a huge part of human motivation. So long as it’s informing the story, then I don’t see what the problem is. Obviously no one likes gratuitous s*x or gratuitous misogyny, the same way people shouldn’t like gratuitous violence.

But I think Thrones is quite good in that way. The violence is quite naturalistic. It’s not hyper-stylised. It’s not glamorised. And the s*x is quite real and dirty as well. It’s about those raw, visceral qualities of human life that make good drama.

The Forest actress believes that GoT’s depiction of both s*x and violence is refreshingly unvarnished. Her stance adds another layer to the ongoing conversation about gender portrayal in media, challenging the notion that objectification is a one-sided issue.
