The original Jurassic Park film starred Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern playing scientists visiting a theme park filled with dinosaurs who are forced to survive after they get loose. The trio was among the standouts of the film in addition to the visual spectacle of seeing dinosaurs on-screen. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard led the modern iteration of the franchise with Jurassic World.

The first two films in the modern trilogy were huge successes and director Colin Trevorrow returned to direct the third film Jurassic World: Dominion. Trevorrow and Universal made a surprising move by bringing back the original core trio of the Jurassic Park films. Trevorrow sent a picture of Neill, Goldblum, and Dern on the set of the film to Steven Spielberg and the director had a euphoric reaction to it.

In an interview with Empire, Trevorrow revealed that Spielberg was incredibly moved to see the trio and was not prepared for the overflow of emotions he was feeling. He was ecstatic seeing the cast who he worked with a long time ago reunited once again and going on a new adventure. He said,

“The moment everybody (Neill, Dern, and Goldblum) shows up for the first time together, they’re all packed into a Jeep,” teases Trevorrow. “And I took a picture of it and I sent it to Steven [Spielberg]. He got very emotional. I don’t think even he was prepared for how moving it would be to see all of those characters that he loves, and people that he loves, looking incredible and on an adventure together.”

The return of the trio raised the expectations and hype of the film. Like its two predecessors. the third film was also a billion-dollar grossing film. The franchise is going in a new direction with a new film directed by Gareth Edwards in 2025.
