The 49-year-old actress is not slowing down anytime soon. She is making her television comeback, portraying a character that’s entirely new to her repertoire.

Coming off the success of her HBO limited series Mare of Easttown where she portrayed Detective Mare Sheehan (a role that earned her an Emmy in 2021), Winslet partnered with the network for two additional limited series.

Kate Winslet Reflects on Regrettable Past Intimate Scenes

Kate Winslet is quite tough and not easily shaken, even though she’s experienced her fair share of setbacks on set—from breaking a toe to suffering hypothermia and even fainting.

Yet, she doesn’t let these incidents slow her down during filming. Interestingly, she’s not one to take lengthy lunch breaks either. Recently, the star shared her thoughts about her past experiences with love scenes, partial n*dity, or kissing scenes in her acting career.

She believes having an intimacy coordinator would’ve been really beneficial. An intimacy coordinator helps actors feel safe during such scenes by making sure boundaries are respected and communication is clear. Their job is to ensure everyone feels comfortable and secure on set. The Titanic star said on The New York Times:

“It would have been nice to have had someone in my corner, because I always had to stand up for myself. [I wanted to say]: ‘I don’t like that camera angle. I don’t want to stand here full-frontal n*de. I don’t want this many people in the room. I want my dressing gown to be closer.’ When you’re young, you’re so afraid of pissing people off or coming across as rude or pathetic because you might need those things. So learning to have a voice for oneself in those environments was very, very hard.”

The reason she wanted to have a intimacy coordinator is that the actress wanted to express her discomfort about things like camera angles, being fully n*de, or too many people around.

As a young actor (who debuted at the age of 15), Winslet was scared of seeming rude or weak, so it was tough for her to speak up and set boundaries.

In 2017, Kate Winslet addressed a crowd of over 20,000 youngsters at a WE charity event in London. She urged them to believe in their potential and to overcome bullies, sharing her own experiences growing up. She told the crowd of youngsters (reported by the Vanity Fair):

“I had been bullied at school. They called me Blubber. Teased me for wanting to act. Locked me in the cupboard. Laughed at me. I wasn’t the prettiest. I was even told that I might be lucky in my acting if I was happy to settle for the fat-girl parts. Casting agents would say, ‘You’re just not what we’re looking for Kate.’ I’d hear that a lot.”

The England native wrapped up by describing her battle against the negative remarks, explaining how she refused to let them hold her back. Instead, she chose to believe in herself and put in the hard work needed to overcome them.
