In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, one of the writers of MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, Joanna Robinson spoke about the studio and the things she learned about the earth’s mightiest superheroes. During the interview, she shared one occurrence where the actor from Spiderhead was going through a rough patch with his character Thor.

Speaking about the movies of Thor, Robinson said:

Thor starts out as this sort of Shakespearean riff in the first movie, directed by Kenneth Branagh. But with the sequel, Thor: The Dark World, you get an installment that many people consider one of the weaker ones in the entire MCU, unfortunately for Thor.”

She further stated:

“So Hemsworth comes to Kevin Feige and says, I feel like I’m drowning in this role. He’s done a few other projects, like the Ghostbusters film, where he gets to play comedy. And he’s like, can we do something different? And that’s how you get Thor: Ragnarok.”

Giving a few details about how the MCU works, Robinson said that the Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige work with an approach of “Best Idea Wins”. They listen to everyone, and that has been Marvel’s philosophy over the years.

The writer of MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios said:

“One of my favorite stories is, there’s this line in Ragnarok where Thor sees the Hulk and says, ‘He’s a friend from work.’ And apparently, that was the idea of a kid who was visiting a set, and they put it in the movie and every trailer.”

Further talking about the ways an inspiration can strike, Robinson stated:

“You never know where the next great idea is going to come from.”

About Chris Hemsworth and his mighty character, we might see Thor in a few more movies, especially in the 2027 scheduled movie Avengers: Secret Wars. Only time will tell if he will return and how the character will build himself till the time he faces another strong enemy. Now that the MCU has got new gods like Hercules and Zeus we can concentrate on them for the time being.
