Actors are often required to undertake more than just acting when it concerns on-screen endeavors. Daddy’s Home star Mark Wahlberg can attest to this sentiment. Although the 52-year-old Emmy-nominated star has performed in different roles across the genres of comedy, action, and drama, there are a few things that he would not like to do again in films—mainly dancing and singing!

Although actors are known to market their versatility, there are certain things that most of them may not find joy in doing. Wahlberg briefly dabbled in music as a member of the American hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Although it’s now another detail to the actor’s checkered past, there’s one thing that Mark Wahlberg continues to detest about dancing and singing in films.
Mark Wahlberg Feels Ridiculous Dancing And Singing In Films
The Transformers alum’s career boasts a musical stint that proved a significant element in his initial rise to fame. This stage of Wahlberg’s life extended beyond the Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch disbandment in 1993. Up until 1998, he kept putting out songs. Eventually, he retired to find success as an actor in the United States. Starring in movies, however, did not exempt him from having to sing and dance.
A notable illustration of this was in the movie Daddy’s Home, in which Wahlberg co-stars with actor-comedian Will Ferrell. The Bill Burr vs Mark Wahlberg dance-battle sequence remains unforgettable among those who’ve seen the film. However, the Fear alum appears less enthusiastic about having to star in endeavors that require him to do these things again.

During an interview with The Guardian, the Oscar-nominated actor expressed interest in doing a rom-com film, although with one condition: no singing or dancing:
“I’d be into it [doing a romantic comedy]! But nothing with singing and dancing in it. I’m not doing a musical. I’ve had to sing and dance more than I’ve wanted to… in films. And it’s my least favorite thing to do.”
Does this have anything to do with the actor’s self-image? Wahlberg affirmed otherwise. In his words, the star is not frightened to “look vulnerable or risk looking ridiculous.” However, he concluded, “I feel ridiculous when I’m dancing and singing.”
This isn’t the first time Mark Wahlberg has voiced his disdain for dancing and singing. During the promotion for Daddy’s Home in 2015, the actor expressed his reservations about the dance sequence his character was required to partake in.
Mark Wahlberg Dreaded The Dance Sequence In Daddy’s Home (2015)
According to Blackfilm.com, during a 2015 press conference in New York City, Wahlberg, who was joined by his co-star Will Ferrell, expressed his reservations about singing and dancing. The Boogie Nights alum was asked about whether or not he practiced his moves for a dance sequence in Daddy’s Home. Spoiler alert: he didn’t. Following was his statement:
“As far as the dancing stuff, I was absolutely dreading it. And [Director] Sean [Anders] continued to ask me, ‘You workin’ on your moves?’ Like, ‘Yeah, I’m workin’ on my moves.’ And I wasn’t. I waited basically until the last second…”
He then revealed how, with zero preparation, he had to “bust a move” in front of a crew of a hundred people:
“There is a crew of a couple hundred people and then a couple hundred extras. They’re like, ‘All right. Bust a move.’ I’m like, ‘Oh God.’ So, my least favorite thing to do next to singing. And, of course, I had to do both in the movie. But people seem to love those moments.”
It is safe to assume that the actor is beyond his Marky Mark phase and would like not to dance or sing anymore, especially in movies.
