He is all the more reason why fans want him back in the franchise, who last reprised the role in 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

In an interview with Heavy Magazine Australia for the promotion of his 2017 movie, he talked about his character, referring to him as ‘pure.’ He shared,

“Because of his irreverence, there is a purity to Jack. There is just something about him that makes him just say whatever comes out of his mouth and then he deals with it.”

He continued,

“Then he realises it about five and a half seconds later because he is pretty scrambled up top. He can get away with things that we all wish that we could get away with and I feel that when I am playing Captain Jack.”

Captain Jack Sparrow has gone through several adventures, with his eccentric personality making the character more iconic. He added,

“There is a real safety in playing him for me because I (goes into Captain Jack’s voice) I can always answer back perfectly.”

The Black Mass actor’s philosophy regarding his role reveals just how he embodied his character with perfection. However, fans were unable to watch the character again as Depp was dropped out of the franchise in 2018. Since, then, the franchise made headlines several times for fresh concepts including a Margot Robbie-led project, but it was settled after a while. However, a new report suggests the franchise’s reboot, dashing fans’ hopes for the actor’s comeback.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, producer Jerry Bruckheimer talked about the future of the hit Pirates franchise, sharing that it is going for a complete reboot. Initially speaking about the Top Gun franchise, he addressed the fantasy saga, sharing,

“We’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”

His statement made one thing clear, the franchise is going to bring new ideas and characters forward. It can also be implied that Depp’s iconic character might not return as the protagonist, leaving fans’ hopes squashed.

The Donnie Brasco actor has been delivering blockbusters but his personal issue involving his ex-wife, Amber Heard, hindered his professional career. In a 2018 op-ed Washington Post, Heard called herself the victim of domestic abuse, which eventually pointed fingers at him. While she did not name him in the op-ed, Depp’s fame took a major hit, with him losing several projects. He later sued his ex-spouse for defamation and won the lawsuit in 2022.
