Famed for his role as Hawkeye in The Avengers and acclaimed for movies such as Wind River and Arrival, Jeremy Renner stands tall as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Demonstrating extreme versatility and humanity, the actor has long stood as the face of various change-bringing movements. However, his own life underwent a significant change and almost ruled him out of the acting scene following a brutal accident involving a snowplow in January 2023.
In an unfortunate turn of events, the 7-ton vehicle ran him over while he tried to help a vehicle stuck near his Nevada property. Left in a critical condition, the actor had little to no hopes of making a recovery. Yet, things turned for the better when his daughter got involved. Narrating the incredible tale of hope and resilience, the Mission Impossible star explained the chain of events.
Jeremy Renner got pulled out of misery by his daughter
Following the accident, the actor’s neighbor dialed emergency services who took him to intensive care in a life-threatening condition. The run-down broke close to 30 of his bones, fractured his legs, punctured his lungs, and left him with a lacerating liver. Even after undergoing a string of surgeries, his condition remained critical. In such a situation, his now 11-year-old daughter, Ava, came to his rescue, as per his own words in talks with ET via CBS8.
“I felt so bad because I forgot about my daughter,” Jeremy Renner recalled while speaking of his pain at the hospital. His comments meant to highlight that in his suffering, he never thought of the impact all of it had on his daughter. Feeling “guilty” for the same, he felt a renewed determination in himself to not give up and help himself heal for he had to live for his daughter. Magically, the thought worked, and his condition started to improve.
She is everything. She’s my life force. I felt such guilt for not wanting to come back ’cause I was OK not coming back to this planet, but I felt so bad because I forgot about my daughter.
The impact Ava had on him led him to describe her as his “life force”. Moreover, he also admitted that the mere thought of her “took me away from any pain”. Regardless, by all means, his journey to recovery was no small feat and is still a work in progress.
Jeremy Renner was assumed clinically dead before springing back to life
In a recent revelation, it came to light that after the accident, Renner’s heart stopped beating for a while. Additionally, his period at the hospital and subsequent recovery involved massive challenges. From pain management medicines, physical therapy, post-traumatic stress disorder, and loss of mobility to dealing with thoughts of absolute death, the actor battled it all.
In another shocking detail, he also opened up about writing his final words to his family from the hospital. Furthermore, with eight broken ribs and multiple broken joints, his condition remained extremely dire.
Yet again, fueled by the thoughts of his daughter, he started to make a recovery and posted highlights of the same on his social media pages. Yet, even now, he reels from those injuries. In his return to the sets of Mayor of Kingstown for its third season, he realized that he still had some major recuperation to undergo. As of now, he stars in the Disney+ documentary Rennervations and in the third season of the thriller series.
