“I feel like I’m insulated in Hollywood because that’s where I live. I feel like a lot of people in this room aren’t aware of the strike. I support my union, I do, and I stand with them but I do not support striking. I don’t. I think that it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. I think that the thinking as it pertains to shows — like this show that I’m on that premiered last night — I think it is myopic, and I stand with my union.”

Amell is best known for portraying Oliver Queen in the television series Arrow. According to Variety, Amell earned $125,000 per episode for the series. Moreover, the actor has a net worth of $7 million.

Amell’s saying that the strike is unnecessary is like a privilege, neglecting others’ needs.

It’s the first time in the history of Hollywood that it is facing a double strike. The writers and actors have walked out of sets and have decided to go on strike until their demands are met. The SAG-AFTRA strike started on July 14, 2023, and ever since then, it’s been making headlines.

The strike has garnered media attention as many celebrities and production houses have spoken for and against it. While some celebrities are in support of the strike, many production houses are criticizing it, as many major upcoming projects are hampered due to the strike.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, actors’ and writers’ jobs were highly affected. Moreover, the involvement of Artificial Intelligence in the film industry has resulted in a threat to their jobs as actors fear that AI can replace them. The strikers are fighting to get equitable pay and security in jobs from AI.
