Starring in the American sitcom since the beginning of this millennium, actor and TV producer Larry David is looking forward to concluding Curb Your Enthusiasm for good. The actor who plays the irritable character of the same name has been playing it since 2000. Therefore, after 11 successful seasons, the HBO series will finally wrap up in February, after its season 12 premieres.
Likewise, the show had become a significant part of David’s life, given he co-created and acted in it. While most would expect a tearful eye, and a heartfelt eulogy from the star, David had a rather hilarious response to the show’s conclusion.
Larry David is dying to get out of character
While every season of Curb Your Enthusiasm seems like it might be the last, the 76-year-old star has confirmed that it is, in fact, the last season. The show had been going on for more than two decades and without a definite timeline. However, months before the show draws to a close, HBO is making sure their viewers are aware of Larry David’s final run in Curb Your Enthusiasm.
According to Variety, Larry David said in a statement,
“As ‘Curb’ comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character.”
Furthermore, he bid farewell to the TV version of Larry David and encouraged anyone willing to contact him to find him at Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization.
The course of Curb Your Enthusiasm
Directed by David, the show never had a proposed timeline. Since the 2000s, the show aired every alternate year but then went on a 6-year-long hiatus after 2011. Bouncing back in 2017, and going on to 2020 and 2021, the show comprises of a total 12 seasons. The primary reason for such a timeline is that David was allowed to.
HBO encouraged David to create additional seasons anytime he was ready, and clearly, the actor took his sweet time. Hence, executive producer Jeff Schaffer commented on the matter saying,
“Every season is the final season. When the last episode occurs, there will never be another episode of ‘Curb.’ It just takes time for him to go out in the world.”
HBO CEO Casey Bloys expressed her thoughts on the show’s ending, and said,
“It’s hard to say farewell to such a ground-breaking, brilliantly funny and iconic series like ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ which has left its mark across television and the comedy genre.”
With a definite timeline for Season 12, to premiere on February 4 on HBO and Max, the season shall consist of 10 episodes, with a season finale in April. The American sitcom was a treat for fans and the laughs are sure to be treasured.
