For a little context, we are going to have to travel back to 2014. A celebrity scandal – which was soon nicknamed “The Fappening” – saw a mass leak of explicit photos of high-profile celebrities. This was achieved by hackers infiltrating Apple’s iCloud service. A ton of celebrities had their privacy breached including Kim Kardashian, Kate Upton, and Cara Delevingne.

Jennifer Lawrence, who was one of the victims of the scandal, told Vanity Fair that since anyone, at any time, could go and look at her nude photographs, she’s going to be traumatized for the rest of her life.

“Anybody can go look at my naked body without my consent, any time of the day. Somebody in France just published them. My trauma will exist forever.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Silver Linings Playbook actor recalled how she felt the day the scandal took place. She stated that remembered feeling violated and as if she got “gang-banged” by the whole planet.

“When the hacking thing happened, it was so unbelievably violating that you can’t even put it into word. I think that I’m still actually processing it. When I first found out it was happening, my security reached out to me. It was happening minute-to-minute – it was almost like a ransom situation where they were releasing new ones every hour or so. And, I don’t know, I feel like I got gang-banged by the f*cking planet.”

She stated that the fact that people could be at a barbecue and just casually open their phones to her explicit photos was impossible to process. Lawrence also recalled that the women affected by the scandal reached out to her about suing Apple, however, the actress felt like her body wasn’t going to come back to her.

Jennifer Lawrence Did Not Ask for This

Back in 2014, Lawrence let all her frustration out in an interview with Vanity Fair where she stated that being a celebrity didn’t mean she was asking for any of this. She called the whole incident disgusting and questioned the world we are living in.

“Just because I am a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this. It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe that we even live in that kind of world.”

When Lawrence went nude for her role in Red Sparrow, she admitted that while she was scared, she did it to bring the authority right back into her hands.

The hackers were able to get into iCloud accounts by sending fake password reset links to the celebrities. Therefore, here’s a friendly reminder to never click on questionable links, ever!
