Kanye West’s innovative Super Bowl commercial for Yeezy

American artist and fashion designer Kanye ‘Ye’ West’s Super Bowl commercial to promote his fashion line Yeezy was one of the highlights of the event. The reason is the fact that Ye’s commercial wasn’t any extravagant, glitzy, and glamorous commercial but a self-filmed video where the artist was seen riding a vehicle and talking directly to the camera. He said,

“Hey y’all, this is Ye, and this is my commercial. And since we spent all the money on the commercial spot, we actually—we didn’t spend any money on the actual commercial. But the idea is I want you to go to yeezy.com.”

The artist continued to say,

“I’m gonna write it at the bottom of the screen and I got some shoes and mmm that’s it.”

According to THR, the commercial did not air in all markets adding that it did not air in Los Angeles but the publication saw the commercial on a Miami affiliate. The publication explained that Ye probably purchased the commercial spot on a regional basis noting that he might have not spent $7 million.

The artist has been working on bringing back his fan-favorite Yeezy brand in full force on his own. Fans loved Yeezy when it released its collection in partnership with Adidas but now since that partnership no longer exists, Ye has to prove that he is enough on his own.

Fans were quick to comment that the artist could have simply posted about the shoes on his social media rather than purchase such an expensive spot at the Super Bowl. Another user was skeptical about calling the artist a genius or a waste of money. While some fans were impressed and noted that it was indeed a great move.

Kanye West attends Super Bowl 2024 in a crucifix mask

Ye attended the Super Bowl 2024 along with his wife Bianca Censori in a head-turning crucifix mask by Alexander McQueen. The piece according to Page Six belongs to the late designer’s 1996 Dante collection and features a 3D white crucifix between the eyes making the head turn.

Sunday also marked the 14th death anniversary of Alexander McQueen and Ye’s donning of the mask was seen as probably his way to honor the designer. He completed his look with a black leather jacket and stretchier headpiece. He was accompanied by his wife Bianca Censori at the game who wore a black latex head-covering outfit with a leather coat.

The artist recently faced backlash for his yet another controversial album Vultures, which includes a song ‘Carnival’ which has a lyric about Taylor Swift. Vultures dropped on February 9th, 2024, and is in collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign. The lyric reads, ‘I made six Taylor Swift (ha) Since I had the Rollie on the wrist (Ha), I’m the new Jesus, b**ch (Ha)”

These lyrics in the song Carnival have drawn attention and backlash for the artist as it sparked the controversy of Ye allegedly harassing and objectifying Swift. Taylor Swift has not commented on the situation.
