In a 2006 profile titled Tommy Lee Jones is Not Acting by Texas Monthly, the actor was portrayed as being just as grumpy and rude in real life as he often is on screen. His behavior is not limited to just the press and general public but also extends to film sets.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Josh Brolin, who portrayed a younger version of Jones in Men in Black 3, revealed that Jones made every encounter on set incredibly uncomfortable and tense. Brolin, who grew up with cowboys, was able to laugh it off but acknowledged that such behavior could be deeply affecting for others.

“I grew up with a lot of cowboys, so it doesn’t affect me as deeply as it would the urban norm. I just laugh at it. But it’s still uncomfortable,” Brolin said.
