Actor Bryan Cranston recently joined Jesse Tyler Ferguson on his podcast Dinner’s on Me, where he shared some disturbing visions he had during the early years of his career. The Breaking Bad star opened up about a relationship he had soon after the end of his first marriage.
He recalled having a “very hot and heavy romance” with a woman, whom he described as “assertive and in command [and] beautiful.” However, their passionate romance quickly turned sour after the Malcolm in the Middle star learned about her struggles with substance abuse, leading to their separation.
After he landed a job on the soap opera Loving, he agreed to meet his ex for dinner as friends. “We were drinking and we were eating—She started talking like, we’re still together. Yeah. And I went, ‘Oh, I’ve made a mistake,'” he recalled.
While the Argylle actor was not interested in the relationship, his ex-partner was not ready to let go and even went on to confront him on the set of his soap opera. Bryan Cranston shared that things started devolving from there, leading him to have visions of killing his ex.

Recalling the intensity of the confrontation, Bryan Cranston admitted to experiencing a terrifying moment of rage and fear after his ex unexpectedly showed up on the set of his show. “You thought you can just walk out and leave me alone,” he recalled his ex’s words, as he described being overwhelmed with emotion and anxiety.
“I went to a different place—You know, they used to call it seeing red. And all you see is emotion, and rage, and fear, and anxiety… and the moment that I snapped out of this, she was, in my mind, I had already killed her.”
Cranston also expressed profound fear and confusion over his thoughts, emphasizing the petite stature of his ex-partner and his own sense of powerlessness in the toxic relationship. “I was so afraid of myself,” he said before admitting, “I mean, just, I just didn’t know what to do.” Despite his portrayal of morally ambiguous characters on screen, Cranston’s personal ordeal serves as a poignant reminder of the blurred boundary between fiction and reality.
