Sandra Bullock was in a Dark Place
Sandra Bullock has not always had a happy-go-lucky life. Back when Two Weeks Notice first came out, the actress went on a hiatus without even realizing it. She was in a dark place after her mother’s death and it was not something she was proud of. As per The Mercury, Bullock wanted to maintain a low profile to work on herself.
“But a year off became a year and two months, then a year and three months, then a year and six months. I had no desire to act anymore.”
Bullock explained how this break stretched longer than she had expected. It went from a year to much longer than that. This also became an issue as she found herself having no desire to act. Her focus on her family and her life pushed her away from acting without her even being able to notice it. That was until another movie caught her eye. Paul Haggis’s Crash.
Sandra Bullock Lost her Dream Role
Upon not being able to find motivation for her attention diverted to Million Dollar Baby. Hilary Swank, who also starred in The Next Karate Kid, got the role of Maggie Fitzgerald, one that Sandra Bullock had eyed. However, that was not the end of things for her. The actress found herself collaborating with Paul Haggis regardless, that too in Brendan Fraser’s film. As per The Mercury, she was ready to do anything to get in the film.
“I read ‘Crash’ and I told Paul, ‘I’ll play any one of the women just to be in the movie.’ It was only four days of work and it was totally re-inspiring.”
It was Crash that caught her attention. She became rather obsessed with the film and was ready to take any part in the film as long as she was allowed to be a part of it. Though the film was not as successful as Million Dollar Baby, it did help Bullock find her way back into Hollywood.
