The Whale’s Director Had Not Watched A Single Brendan Fraser Movie

Darren Aronofsky revealed why exactly it took him such a long time to film the movie. The hunt for his main character, Charlie, had been a lengthy one. The only reason he even came to stumble upon Brendan Fraser was because of a trailer. He was mesmerized by the actor and knew immediately that if there was going to be anyone becoming his protagonist, it was going to be Fraser.

“The reason it took 10 years is because I couldn’t figure out how to cast it, and then I stumbled on a trailer of a low-budget Brazilian indie movie Brendan had a small role in it. To be honest, I had never really seen any of his films, I had never seen George of the Jungle, Encino Man — I have seen The Mummy, but not that much. It was something like a light bulb that went off, let’s roll the dice on it. Once a movie star, always a movie star, and there was a time where people loved him, I had no idea about this Brenaissance and people going crazy over him.”

He was so sure that the actor would be perfect for the role that he only watched a glimpse of him in the trailer and confirmed it. This simple decision gave Brendan Fraser his epic comeback into the Hollywood industry making not only the fans but, also celebrities who have worked with him in the past extremely happy.
