Robert Downey Jr.’s Father’s Views About Iron Man

The legendary actor has done numerous movies over the years and in various genres. Some of his popular films include Dolittle, The Judge, U.S. Marshals, Chaplin, and others. However, it was Iron Man that gave the actor unsurmountable fame and money, making him one of the biggest stars of the century.

By playing the role of Iron Man, he managed to rule the entertainment industry over the past decade, but he was unable to impress his father. In an interview with Downey Jr., the actor shared with The Associated Press about his father Robert Downey Sr. thought about Iron Man.

“I did a bunch of the Marvel stuff, and he goes, ‘Uh uh. Yeah, bomb, bomb. Jokes. Funny robots. I get it.’ I went, ‘Hm. Wow. OK.’”

Numerous people are not into the comic-book superhero genre and don’t enjoy those movies. Probably his father was one among them. He added,

“However, being dismissive of a movie series your son spent years working on seems surprising.”

The actor further revealed that his father did not particularly dislike his Iron Man films, but he had extremely high standards for what constitutes a good movie.

Robert Downey Jr. reveals the one film his father liked

Due Date star shared in the interview that he felt that his father was a snob, because of which he did not like any of his movies.

“I hate to say it, but he was a bit of a snob.”

“Susan [Downey Jr.’s wife] and I did a couple of Sherlock movies. He was like, ‘Cute.’”

Most of movies of the actor as box office entertainers and made to attract and entertain the audiences.

Downey Jr. was the lead in the 1992 movie Chaplin, where he portrayed the role of a silent-era movie star. The film was highly acclaimed, and his performance got him a nomination for Academy Awards. But even this movie failed to impress his father, as he thought Chaplin was too episodic.

Robert Downey Jr. also revealed during the same interview that his father did like some of his work, which included his film Less Than Zero. Apparently, his father was impressed by his work, where he portrayed an addict. The actor also revealed that his father was one other time happy when he sang a German song at the age of 15.
