“I hate you… You’re killing me”: Dave Bautista Blames James Gunn for Ruining Most of His Takes While Filming The Guardians Trilogy

Dave Bautista Blames James Gunn for Ruining Most of His Takes While Filming The Guardians Trilogy

Dave Bautista is a household name in the wrestling world but his portrayal of Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy made him a global superstar. Playing the dimwitted warrior has its own perks but not always can he stay in his character, what if he ends up breaking his character due to someone else?

However, in a March interview with Cinemablend, the film cast unraveled that the film director was to be blamed for ruining most of the former’s takes.

Did James Gunn Affect Dave Bautista’s Takes in the Guardians Trilogy?

Dave Bautista‘s Drax the Destroyer is undoubtedly one of the funniest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. From showing intense vengeance to heart-warming love for others, this character has won many hearts. Delivering versatile dialogues along with some goofy twists is not at all easy. Earlier this year, the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 along with film director, James Gunn talked about several things related to the project including a question that stated,

“Who breaks up when you get a line that you have to try?”

To the question, actress, Karen Gillan who plays Nebula in the MCU franchise promptly named the former.

She further explained the reason,

“He always gets fed the most silly lines like so James will say them over the microphone and then Dave will be like ‘yeah’ before bursting into laughter.”

Her co-star, Pom Klementieff, playing Mantis, chimed in mimicking him, ‘Yeah, alright! I can’t say that.’

 Gillan continued,

“And he like just erupts into laughter and then he tries again and then laughs again.”

It seems quite clear that the now DC co-CEO has quite a contribution in interrupting Bautista when he used to try his part for filming.

After the Scottish actress concluded her views, Gunn went ahead with explaining his version. He recalled how he always made him laugh that the WWE personality ultimately ended up breaking his dialogues while filming.

“I just watched the gag reel and Dave is doing the scene that he does with Ben Davis and Pom. They keep laughing and then Dave goes, ‘James I can hear you laughing back there it’s killing me man, it’s killing me.'”

Due to Gunn, the film set was quite laugh-hearted, especially for the wrestler who ends up cracking first.

Their happy yet earnest working style eventually gave great results since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a critical and commercially successful project earning over $845 million worldwide.

The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
