Is Johnny Depp remaking The War of the Roses with ex-wife Amber Heard?

In a recent feature in the UK newspaper The Times, Alice Cooper opened up about his unique perspective as a long-time friend of the Pirates of the Caribbean star. The two have shared a musical journey as members of the rock band Hollywood Vampires for nearly 11 years. Naturally, during the interview, the topic shifted to the infamous legal battle and the relationship between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

Interestingly, Cooper revealed that he wasn’t initially aware of the extent of the troubled relationship between Depp and Heard. As the actor seemingly did not like to share any of the issues he was facing. However, once Cooper became aware of the situation, he responded in a lighthearted manner. In a humorous twist, he suggested a movie that seemed tailor-made for the couple’s tumultuous dynamic. He said,

“I said, ‘I have a great idea. You and Amber do a remake of The War of the Roses. Who wouldn’t go and see that?’”

Depp embraced the joke with a chuckle. He then smoothly transitioned the discussion to their band’s tour setlist. Cooper continued saying,

“He laughed. Then it was, ‘What songs are we doing?’–Johnny is a good guitarist and in a way he would have been happiest doing that, playing side of stage in a band and not having to deal with the level of attention he gets.”

While the idea of a remake won’t be coming to fruition, not in this lifetime at least, Depp does acknowledge that it was a funny suggestion.

Why The War of the Roses?

Released in 1989, The War of the Roses stands as a dark comedy adapted from Warren Adler’s novel bearing the same title. Its narrative centers around the stormy relationship between the Roses. Anchored by the performances of Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in the lead roles of the Roses, the film was a huge hit.

The once-wealthy couple descends into a harrowing abyss where their actions escalate to the point of threatening and even engaging in physical altercations. Strikingly similar to the real-life turmoil between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the fictional portrayal perfectly parallels the shocking dynamics that allegedly unfolded in the private lives of the very high-profile couple.

The parallels between the Roses’ fictional turmoil and Depp and Heard’s very real struggles are quite vivid. While the reel couple met their unfortunate demise by getting crushed by a chandelier, the real duo found themselves crushed under a battle of legal proceedings and explosive allegations that took the online world by storm.
