However, she made it into the third Star Wars sequel trilogy film as well in a digital recreation of her role as Princess Leia.

Fisher was convinced that it was the curse of the movie, The Force Awakens. When The Daily Mail UK reached out to her for comments on Ford’s plane crash, she recalled her own accident a few days ago. She shared that a few days before Ford’s incident she was driving back home in Los Angeles rain and her BMW’s wheel came off.

Luckily, Fisher was not injured in the accident. She shared that it was the curse of the movie and added that she was about to call Mark Hamill to make sure he was okay. She shared with The Daily Mail:

Things happen in threes. I’m about to call Mark Hamill to make sure he’s Ok. I have a horrid feeling there’s a curse going on here… What is funny is that last Sunday it was raining hard in L.A. I was driving to the art store and I got into an accident. It wasn’t that serious and I wasn’t hurt but it’s the first car accident I’ve ever had. I drove home and that’s when the wheel came off my BMW.

Fisher also shared that her accident could’ve been fatal. Her assistant told her that she could’ve died if the wheel trouble occurred when she was on the freeway. She shared that when she saw the news about Ford’s crash she was convinced that it was the Star Wars curse. Fisher shared:

My assistant told me I could have died if the wheel had come off when I was on the freeway. Then I was watching the news and saw Harrison had his crash. I’m a bit worried it’s the curse of Star Wars.

However, no curse kept her away from the Star Wars movies. She returned to the role in the sequel movie, The Last Jedi. Earlier, Fisher had shared in a behind-the-scenes documentary for The Force Awakens that it was her job to protect the character of Princess Leia. “I’m the custodian of Princess Leia, so it’s my job to kind of protect her. It’s my whole life,” she shared in Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey (via Yahoo).

Carrie Fisher shared with The Daily Mail at the time that she hadn’t spoken to Harrison Ford after the crash but sent him some beer as an inside joke. She shared that the joke began when Ford offered her two options. Either the two of them could fly in a plane or have a beer and Fisher shared that she chose the latter.

With the beers that she sent to the hospital, she also attached a note that read, “You should have had a beer this time.” She recalled to The Daily Mail:

[One time] he said, ‘Look, do you want to fly or can we have a beer?’ He wouldn’t have a drink if we were going to fly. It became something of a joke between us that I chose to have a beer that time rather than fly. I sent him some beers to the hospital with the message, ‘You should have had a beer this time.’

The Force Awakens director J. J. Abrams shared in the documentary that Fisher was nervous when she first came in as she hadn’t acted in a while. However, once they started filming, the actress “seemed to fall into it very easily.” Star Wars fans would definitely miss her.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens and other films in the franchise are now available for streaming on Disney+.
