Kohei Horikoshi, the mangaka of My Hero Academia, has revealed he has a stack of characters and their backstories. But he didn’t include them in the manga. This is very surprising as My Hero Academia will end on 30th August. At the last moment, Horikoshi admitted he wouldn’t include them in the future and his utterance shocked us.
He added that he has a detailed backstory of One For All’s previous inheritors. However, he intentionally left them due to his artistic choice. Horikoshi didn’t disclose anything more about this. Hearing this from the mangaka intensifies our curiosity about the hidden gems in the story.

As per the interview published in Viz Media, Kohei Horikoshi told us many untold stories regarding his manga, My Hero Academia. When asked about character backstories, he revealed he has multiple new characters and their histories. Also, the untold backgrounds of One For All and its previous inheritors.
This is one of the mysterious and unrevealing sides of the mangaka. One For All, a stockpiling quirk, is already iconic. Fans probably wanted to know its past inheritors as well, but Horikoshi kept them deprived of the information.
Fans can speculate about existing characters as well. For instance, detailed backstories of pro heroes like Jeanist, Mirko, and Hawks could provide deeper insights into their motivations and struggles.
Unseen redemption arcs for characters like Debi, Toga, or even Shigaraki could offer different perspectives on their characters. Shota Aizawa’s detailed backstory could’ve also revealed the reason behind his stoic personality.
The Legacy of My Hero Academia
Horikoshi has stated that he will not include certain characters and their backstories in the manga, which has sparked questions. Horikoshi has chosen to keep certain details hidden. Perhaps there’s a plot involving the development of minor characters like Mei Hatsume.
When asked whether he wants to include these backstories in the future, he said no, negating any possibility. Rather, he placed his inspiration to be from Terminator 2, where filmmakers didn’t reveal the future Arnold Schwarzenegger came from.
As Horikoshi has kept us in the dark regarding One For All and its inheritors, it becomes difficult to trust him. What might he have omitted from the story because he didn’t want to?
Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, prefers to leave some things to the imagination rather than revealing everything. As the series nears its end, it’s sad to think that there may be parts of his work that we’ll never get to see.
