As the imminent season of House of the Dragon approaches fast and steady, fans are bubbling with anticipation. With the key cast making a spectacular comeback and new characters gracing the show with their presence, things are bound to get exciting. And let’s not forget the much-hyped Dance of the Dragons.
But you know what they say, every rose has its thorn, and this one might just prick fans a bit too much.
While season 2 of House of the Dragon appears to be full of delicious promises, fans should brace themselves to mourn a few unfortunate losses, too.
Emma D’Arcy Has Dismaying News for House of the Dragon 2 Fans
The spicy dynamic of The Black Queen and Prince Daemon is perhaps one of the most remarkable elements of House of the Dragon that lends the show an electric atmosphere (via TVLine). Emma D’Arcy, too, believed that their Game of Thrones-esque chemistry – stemming from their shared history – served as “erotic energy” for the characters.
However, while D’Arcy’s formidable Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith’s polarising Prince Daemon Targaryen will return in House of the Dragon 2, fans won’t see much of their juicy duo in the series.
In a recent interview with Variety, D’Arcy, 31, divulged the news, claiming that they have “petitioned for more time” with Smith in a potential House of the Dragon season 3.
“It was kind of rubbish! The man has incredibly high standards, so you at least have a chance of the work being satisfying. I have petitioned for more time next season.”
But besides the Truth Seekers star, even Smith lamented the loss of their co-star’s presence on-screen.
Matt Smith on Acclimating to This Change in House of the Dragon 2
While D’Arcy detested being sundered from their scene partner for a considerable chunk of season 2, Smith’s reaction wasn’t poles apart either. The Doctor Who actor stated that he found it rather “difficult” to spend so much time in the forthcoming season without the critically acclaimed star who doubled as his better half in the show.
“It was difficult to do it without them because I love them — a person of real depth and sardonic humor and fierce intellect.”
However, Smith did shoot many scenes with the award-winning Simon Russell Beale, who plays Ser Simon Strong, the Castellan of Harrenhal. And the two had an absolute gala of a time working together. “We used to just have a hoot!” Smith mentioned.
So, while fans may have a hard time coping with the loss of D’Arcy and Smith’s charged energy, at least they have something else to look forward to.
House of the Dragon 2 premieres on Max on June 16, 2024.
