Star Wars might not be lighting the silver screen up anytime soon, but it is going through a renaissance on the small screen. The Mandalorian, which is currently airing its third season, started the phenomenon, and then it was followed by shows like The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and more. The latest to join the group will be Ahsoka. Featuring the titular Jedi, the show is rumored to be all about her tracking down Thrawn. But the question is- will Lars Mikkelsen play the Chiss villain in live-action just like he voiced the character in Star Wars Rebels?

Season 2 of The Mandalorian introduced audiences to live-action Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, for the first time. However, viewers of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels were already familiar with the character. Tano revealed to Din Djarin that she was looking for Grand Admiral Thrawn, a villain from Star Wars Rebels.

As such, it’s almost certain that the antagonist will appear in the upcoming Ahsoka show or maybe in season 3 of The Mandalorian. So fans want Lars Mikkelsen, the elder brother of actor Mads Mikkelsen and the one who voiced the character in Star Wars Rebels, to play him.

However, in an interview with the Danish site Streaming Guide, the 58-year-old Emmy-winning actor admitted there’s not much hope of that happening. He said:

“Well, I’ve heard that, but I haven’t heard anything about it yet. Then they should have approached me, but they haven’t. So it must be someone else, unfortunately.”

Fans would have loved seeing another actor make the jump from voicing a Star Wars character to portraying them in live-action after Katee Sackhoff for Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian. However, that doesn’t seem to be happening as per Lars Mikkelsen.

Who Will Play Thrawn In Live-Action?

Many fans think that episode one of The Mandalorian season three has hinted at Thrawn’s arrival through the space whales called purrgils. They were last seen in Star Wars Rebels and helped Ezra Bridger defeat Thrawn. As a result, there are plenty of theories floating around about Thrawn cameoing in season 3 of The Mandalorian before getting fleshed out in the Ahsoka series. However, there’s no concrete confirmation on who is playing the character even though it’s almost certain that the character is going to appear in live-action.

In 2022, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Ray Stevenson had been cast in Ahsoka as a villain but they didn’t know who he will be playing. The site wrote, “It is unclear who Stevenson will play, but sources say he is a villain in the series and will play an admiral … although, not Thrawn.” However, fans aren’t too convinced. Popular speculation is that Stevenson has indeed been cast to play Thrawn.

Apart from Thrawn, characters like Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), and Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) will join Ahsoka on her journey. Fans expect at least some of them to be introduced in The Mandalorian season 3. More information about the show will probably be revealed at the annual Star Wars Celebration convention that will begin on April 7th. It’s rumored that the actor playing Thrawn will be announced there as well.

Ahsoka is speculated to be released anywhere from mid to late 2023, and The Mandalorian season 3 is streaming now on Disney+.
