There had been a lot of hype around the Jack Ryan series exclusive to and produced by Amazon Studios for their OTT platform. Yes, before The Office star was even near to bagging the role of Tom Clancy’s creation, Pine was there playing the character on the big screen. But alas, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit couldn’t make the cut for a sequel with its box office performance, something that the star regrets. Still, he holds the hope that the production company will reboot the franchise with a new film in the future.

Before the Amazon Original brought back the soldier smack-dab in the middle of the action with John Krasinski, Jack Ryan was a character that had been portrayed by many iconic stars in its big-screen franchise. From Harrison Ford to Ben Affleck, the characters exchanged hands till it finally came to Chris Pine to carry on the legacy with 2014’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

But this was an opportunity that he couldn’t cash on since the performance of the film wasn’t up to the mark, which led to the hope of a sequel left as a pipe dream.

Talking about the aforementioned film with Moviefone (via Variety) in the past, the Wonder Woman 1984 star revealed back then that he had a feeling that there may not be a next film in the franchise. He said the reason was that his film didn’t make enough sales to warrant a sequel in the future, even though it grossed $135 Million worldwide.

Although he had a hunch that there wasn’t any more coming from him, he still hoped that someday in the future, the franchise would be reborn, even if it had to be without him. He said:

“That’s one of my deep regrets, that we didn’t totally get that right. It’s a great franchise, and if it’s not me, then I hope it gets a fifth life at this point. It’s just great. I love the spy genre. I hope it’s done again and with a great story.”

Since the TV series made such an impact on the audience in recent times, a reboot of the cinematic franchise doesn’t seem too far-fetched at this point.
