How I Met Your Mother once became the talk of the town while it was famous. It ended up on the hitlist of fans when the creators had a different ending than what fans were hoping for.
Starring Josh Radnor in the lead role, the series explored the life of Ted Mosby, an architect in search of true love alongside 4 characters that became like family to him. However, everyone didn’t like the ending of the show.
How I Met Your Mother Ended On A Different Note
‘Kids, I’m going to tell you about the story of how I met your mother’ said Ted Mosby as the story of the show started. In the first episode, Ted Mosby meets Robin Scherbatsky and they hit it off. Ted goes to her room and immediately says “I love you,” which sets off a chain reaction that spanned 9 years.
Throughout the series, Josh Radnor hints at who the Mother of his kids is. When the viewers are getting a glimpse of the future, Mosby pulls them back into the present. During the final season, Cristin Milioti, who portrayed the role of The Mother, died due to cancer after spending several years with Ted Mosby.
When Josh Radnor finishes the tale to his kids, his children urge Ted to go after Aunt Robin because the story was always about her. Well, millions of fans didn’t like the ending as they felt that Ted and Robin didn’t deserve to be together after all that had happened.
Although Cobie Smulders (who portrayed Robin Scherbatsky) defended the ending, not everyone from the cast was on board with the idea. Cristin Milioti (The Mother) also revealed that she burst into literal tears when she read the ending for the first time!
Cristin Milioti Cried After Reading The Ending!
The Mother passes away due to a medical condition and Ted Mosby runs after Robin Scherbatsky with the same Blue French Horn from the bistro in the first episode.
For many people, the ending was romantic and complete. For millions of people, however, the ending was completely false. In an interview with Vulture, Milioti revealed that she cried after reading the ending.
I just burst into tears as soon as they told me. I had to write an e-mail later that night to [co-creator] Craig [Thomas] being like, ‘Hey, I’m really sorry I cried all over you at the Christmas party.’
She further continued,
The way that he and Josh [Radnor, the actor who played Ted] explained it to me was, “Well, Ted has two loves, and basically what we’re trying to say is that life comes at you in ways you can never expect.” Once they put it that way, I understood it more. I was like, that’s really involved and awesome.
Both Cristin Milioti and Cobie Smulders defended the show’s ending and praised the creators for sticking with their plan whether the series would have ended in Season 9 or Season 1.
With 9 seasons to its name, the iconic show received a rating of 8.3/10 on IMDB and a whopping 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. How I Met Your Mother is available to stream on Netflix in the U.S.
