Having just started her career, Aladdin star Naomi Scott was very excited when she landed a small role in the Matt Damon movie, The Martian. But as it often turns out happening with junior artists, the majority part of her screen time ended up on the cutting room floor because of not being able to deliver her lines properly. Completely dejected, the actress then pulled herself up and realized how important that particular moment in her career was in the long run. Hollywood in itself is a very competitive market, and being cast in a 7-time  Academy Award-nominated movie is an achievement in itself.

She later went on to create a great impression with movies such as Power Rangers and Aladdin and also was one of the Charlie’s Angels in the 2019 movie. In a conversation with Collider, that actress revealed one of the moments she regrets most.

Naomi Scott on Being Cut Completely Out From The Martian

Almost nobody knew, that the Aladdin star Naomi Scott was in the 7 times Oscar-nominated Matt Damon starter The Martian. While speaking with Collider for an episode of Collider Ladies Night, the actress discussed the ups and downs she encountered in the entertainment industry and revealed a specific instance where, after she had a hard time delivering her line, got the majority of her part removed from the aforementioned movie. This was one of the biggest Hollywood gigs she ever bagged at the time, thus she could not afford to botch it up.

But alas, the thing she feared the most happened, the pressure got to her, resulting in her choking while delivering her line. She explained,

“There was one dialogue scene and then I was in scenes, but just there. So there was this one dialogue scene. It was this science jargon. Ridley Scott was behind this curtain and I was just, mate, I just choked. And do you know what? I think it’s so important to just talk about moments where you choke, because they really do inform your experiences and they really do force you to kind of reconcile whatever those insecurities that you have are and face them.”

Although she later did give a useable take, the director Ridley Scott deemed it unnecessary for the storyline and decided not to use it in the end result. She further continued stating,

“I mean, if they wanted to use it, they could have. I think it was probably a combination of the fact that they didn’t actually need it. However, the fact that I know I was so nervous and that I choked, I probably was like, in the back of my mind, ‘Yeah, I don’t know if I’m gonna make it into this movie.’”

But the actress then stated it wasn’t a negative experience for her at all, being able to work with Ridley Scott that early on in her career was more than a dream come for her.

Matt Damon Was Extremely Emotional While Filming This One Scene for The Martian

“The other actors had already wrapped. They’d gone home, so it was just Ridley and I in Budapest shooting that scene, and as we started to do the scene, Ridley did something kind of tricky: He put the sound of the other actors inside my helmet. It just struck me that it was the first time I’d heard anybody’s voice in almost two years,”

The director then chimed in and had nothing but praises in store for Damon. He stated,

“And he said, ‘I just lost it. Was that too much?’ And I said ‘No. It was perfect dude.’ But that’s him. That’s him,”

The actor-director duo is what made the film what it was. The two sang nothing but praises for one another and the true comradery is what translated seamlessly into the big screen.

The Martian is available on Prime Video to stream.
