Daniel Craig is truly one-of-a-kind actor for the iconic roles that he has played throughout the years in Hollywood. From James Bond to Benoit Blanc, the actor has found worldwide fame for his intense and witty movies.
Growing up with a love of theater in his heart, Craig revealed that he had a terrible experience on stage when he was performing. Reminiscing about the past, the actor recalled when the audience would throw Opal fruits at him and being fed up, Daniel Craig just started to eat them on stage (which got a round of applause!)
When People Used To Throw Fruits At Daniel Craig On-Stage!
During an interview, the Casino Royale actor chose to pick his favorite questions written by his friends. Director Rian Johnson, who collaborated alongside Daniel Craig to create the 2019 masterpiece Knives Out, had an interesting question to ask the actor.
Since Craig had a bit of experience doing theater, Rian Johnson asked Daniel Craig (via The Guardian) what his worst experience was as a theater actor. Craig went on to reveal a hilarious memory that he had from his teenage years. Being fed up with the audience throwing Opal fruits at a young 16-year-old Daniel Craig, resulted in a round of applause when Craig picked the fruits up…and ate them on the stage!
“Being bombarded with Opal Fruits [AKA Starbursts] at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House when I must have been around 16 or 17. We’d do three afternoon matinees a week and it was just school buses of kids who were not into seeing Romeo and Juliet.”
He further continued,
“They had bags of Opal Fruits and they’d just throw them constantly on to the stage. Eventually, I just got so weary of it I started eating them, which got a round of applause.”
With a penchant for turning things comedic, Daniel Craig became the perfect man to portray the role of Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out.
Daniel Craig Was The Perfect Man To Play Benoit Blanc
As the interview progressed, actor M Emmet Walsh asked Craig a question about his 2019 film, Knives Out. In the movie, Craig became famous for having a southern accent and the wittiness that Craigg brought into the character. When M Emmet Walsh asked Craig whether he had developed Benoit Blanc himself or if was it written in the script, here’s what the actor had to say to The Guardian.
“He was on the page. Rian Johnson sent me the script; I giggled all the way through it. It said in the stage direction: “A lilting southern accent.” Rian came to see me and I sort of pointed to it on the page and he went: “Yes”, and I went: “OK!” That’s kind of where it came from.”
Knives Out received a high rating of 7.9/10 on IMDB and a whopping 97% on Rotten Tomatoes with Daniel Craig receiving high acclaim. The movie is available to stream on truTV in the U.S.
