But now, she is finally making her way back to normalcy as she stars in Conor Allyn’s In the Fire. During the world premiere of the film, Amber Heard stated that while she cannot control what stories people create around her, she can control her narrative. The actress also asks that since she is simply promoting her new project, she would be grateful if people “didn’t throw” stones at her.

Amber Heard recently visited Sicily, Italy, where her upcoming film saw its world premiere at the Taormina Film Festival. Deadline took the opportunity to talk to Heard and hear her side of the story. Heard opened up about how In the Fire is a step toward regaining control of her story and how she cannot control what people say or think about her. Additionally, Heard had a small yet heartfelt request for the audience.

“I’m in control for the most part of what comes out of my mouth. What I’m not in control is how my pride in this project and all we put into this film can be surrounded by clips of other stuff. That’s a big thing I had to learn, that I’m not in control of stories other people create around me. That’s something that probably I’ll appreciate as a blessing further down the line. Right now, I just kind of want to not have, you know, stones thrown at me so much. So let’s get the elephant out of the room then, and just let me say that. I am an actress. I’m here to support a movie. And that’s not something I can be sued for.”

Heard also stated that she has been a part of the film industry since she was sixteen. Therefore, whatever happened last year cannot and will not stop her career.

“I have decades in this industry. I’m not telling you I have this amazing film career, but what I have is something that I’ve made, myself, and it has given me a lot to be able to contribute…That’s substantial enough. What I have been through, what I’ve lived through, doesn’t make my career at all. And it’s certainly not gonna stop my career.”

It looks like after all that happened with Johnny Depp, Heard is ready to make a comeback into the film industry. The question, though, is if people are willing to accept her or not. After all, the fire hasn’t quite died down yet.

It won’t be easy for Heard to go back to her pre-defamation trial life, but she sure is willing to try. And according to the film’s director Conor Allyn, Heard has a bright future ahead thanks to In the Fire. Talking to PEOPLE, Allyn stated,

“Amber has an incredibly bright future ahead. I think In the Fire showcases her talents as an actor. I know this is something she is very proud of and it’s something we are very excited to release to the public. I think it will be a great opportunity for her to have something beyond the trial and stuff to talk about and to be a platform for a hell of a comeback.”

Well, only time will tell if there is any truth to Allyn’s words. Will fans of the film industry finally let Heard off the hook or will she find herself on the receiving end of criticism, yet again? As of now, there is no release date for In the Fire.
