Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan are two fine actresses who have done some highly critically acclaimed movies. From Titanic to Lady Bird, there is no shortage of talent in either actress. Having done some incredible projects, they have also acquainted themselves with wonderful co-stars as well as respected directors. Despite their accomplishments individually, the two made an incredible movie together.

Ammonite saw the two actresses combining their talents and creating a blockbuster no one knew they needed. The movie got a lot of praise and both actresses did stuff they never really expected to, getting out of their comfort zones and seeing just how well they can perform with that. However, in one scene in the movie, there was a certain special demand from Winslet that she wanted no matter what because of her birthday.

Kate Winslet Wanted an Intimate Scene on Her Birthday

Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan played lovers in Ammonite and the experience had been one that both actresses heartily enjoyed. The two had the time of their life even when it came to shooting the most intimate sequences. The s*x scenes were different than what Winslet was used to and she even asked for the shoot of one of their intimate scenes to fall on her birthday.

“I just wanted her to have, frankly, a great memory in her film life, regardless of how the scene played out or the movie turned out.”

Both the actresses were trying their best to make the memories of their work together as best as possible and that involved their intimate sequences. She saw her birthday as an opportunity for both of them to be on equal stands and enjoy their time filming. What mattered to her was not how the movie would be or how the scene would be but how much they had fun with each other. Even the on-set crew was all female.

Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan Choreographed their own Scenes

Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan had the freedom to explore the intimate scene by themselves. They choreographed the sequence by themselves and had the liberty to have an all-female crew at that time. Both of them had ideas they could pass on to each other and when the common ground was discovered, they would act on it accordingly.

“I just could feel that Saoirse and I had the same ideas in terms of what we wanted to express in the scene, the emotional underpinning of the scene, the connection between these two women – which is, of course, more important than anything in any love scene.”

They used their emotional bond to further improve the scenes and admitted that their movie was one that they had never experienced before. Whether it came to the shooting of the entire film or just the intimate scenes, it was an experience of a lifetime for them. Every intimate scene the actress shot before Ammonite felt empty and rather absurd as compared to what the film included; including her time with Leonardo DiCaprio.
