Starring as Laurie Strode in the acclaimed slasher franchise, the film revolutionized the genre and Jamie Lee Curtis was branded as a scream queen.
In her career of over forty years, Lee Curtis has played a variety of roles and has become a sort of motherly figure for upcoming actors. She has proclaimed herself to be the celebrity godmother of star Jake Gyllenhaal, after having known his mother, screenwriter Naomi Foner, and even claims to have lived with the Prisoners star during the global pandemic.
Jamie Lee Curtis Is Jake Gyllenhaal’s Godmother
Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is known for his dramatic performances in films like Prisoners, Enemy, Zodiac, Nightcrawler, and Donnie Darko. He has played diverse roles in films like Brokeback Mountain, in which he starred as a gay cowboy along with Heath Ledger. Gyllenhaal received his sole Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in the drama.

Though expressing an interest in acting from a young age, Gyllenhaal was forbidden by his family to work in films during his early years, only appearing in films directed by his father such as A Dangerous Woman and Homegrown.
Gyllenhaal was near the film industry due to his parents’ work and was hence exposed to many talents within the industry. He calls many of the celebrities he has a close relationship with his godparents, including actors Paul Newman and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Lee Curtis mentioned in an interview with EW that she was his celebrity godmother,
“I knew him as a babe…So, when he actually started show business, I said, ‘Look, I’m your celebrity godmother. Just relax. It’ll be all good.’”
The Halloween star also said that she once told him that she would help him navigate the world of showbiz with utmost sincerity and honesty as she did not need anything back from him.
Jake Gyllenhaal Returned The Favor To Jamie Lee Curtis Once
Jamie Lee Curtis and Jake Gyllenhaal seem to have a loving and caring relationship as godmother and godson. Lee Curtis stated that the Spider-Man: Far From Home star bunked with her during the COVID-19 lockdown as he was stuck in a home near her place. They reportedly bonded throughout the ordeal for a year as they stayed close to each other.
Despite their closeness, Gyllenhaal and Jamie Lee Curtis have never starred in a film together. Lee Curtis stated that she was reluctant to work with him as she did not want her relationship with her godchildren to be transactional. However, they did end up working together on her podcast Letters from Camp, a series of children’s audiobooks.
Jamie Lee Curtis reportedly asked Gyllenhaal to play the role of Trout in one of her children’s books. She said to Newsweek,
“I was nervous about asking Jake because I don’t want [our relationship] to be transactional…I don’t ask him to come to movie premieres. I don’t ask when people do long lead interviews in magazines, and they always say, ‘Well, can we call Jake? Can we call Arnold Schwarzenegger to get quotes?’ I say ‘No, you can’t call Jake.'”
The Freaky Friday star then mentioned that the actor noticed her apprehension and prodded her to talk about it, which was when she finally asked him to voice the role. Gyllenhaal reportedly agreed immediately and they recorded him under a desk.
