Over the years, Matt Damon has turned into one of the biggest names in Hollywood. He was the protagonist of his own film series, has been in many Oscar-winning projects, has been nominated for the award five times himself, and even won once. It is safe to say that he is one of the most talented, respected, and recognized actors in the film industry.
While he has come to be known through these adjectives, he was also once a lesser-known actor. Every A-list star had to start somewhere, and many years ago, Damon worked as an extra in a Kevin Costner film alongside his long-time friend, Ben Affleck.
During a recent interview, Jimmy Kimmel told Costner exactly what was going through his mind when he was working with him for the first time.
Matt Damon Was A Big Fan of Kevin Costner
With the release of Horizon: An American Saga just around the corner, Kevin Costner recently made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Here, he touched on various aspects of his professional life, including his 1989 film, Field of Dreams. In the film, Matt Damon played the role of an uncredited baseball fan, alongside Ben Affleck.
Kimmel personally contacted Damon to ask him about his experience on set with Costner, and it is safe to assume that it was a good one. The actor revealed that he had always been a huge fan of the Yellowstone actor. He seemed to have been a big fan of the 1987 film, The Untouchables, as he had a poster of the film in his room when he was working on the 1989 movie.
I remember it well. I literally had an Untouchables poster on my wall.
Getting to work with the person he had idolized for so long seemed to have been a dream come true for him, and the sentiment reflected in Damon’s interactions with Costner.
Matt Damon Was Star-Struck
Matt Damon then went on to reveal an interaction he had with Kevin Costner, and it is safe to say that the actor was star-struck. In between shooting, it would seem that the Yellowstone actor would hang out with the extra actors and engage in conversation here and there. During one such interaction, it would seem that Costner cracked a small joke, which resulted in Damon giggling and laughing like he was being flirted with.
[He] came out and hung around with the extras in between set ups. I asked him what he was doing and he said ‘shooting the sh*t.’ and I laughed like a 12-year-old-girl.
While it seemed obvious that the Oppenheimer actor idolized Costner, he went on to say that he and Ben Affleck both looked up to the Yellowstone actor and his career. He had exactly what they were working so hard to achieve.
It was a big day for us as he had the exact career we wanted. He was very nice to us.
Meeting such a figure in real life had to have been a transformative experience for both A-listers.
