Although the film could have shaped Cavill’s career differently, the British actor recalled losing the opportunity after ruining his audition due to nervousness.

After years of struggling in the film industry, Henry Cavill finally catapulted his career with his appearance in Zack Snyder’s DC movie Man Of Steel. However, before becoming the world’s iconic superhero, Superman, the British actor auditioned for various roles as a rising actor.

There was a time in his career when Henry Cavill constantly kept losing opportunities before getting his big break. Recalling that period in his decade-old career, Cavill distinctly remembered a movie he auditioned for. Discussing his 2003 opportunity to audition in Patrick Stewart’s The Lion in Winter, the 40-year-old mentioned the blunder he caused.

Confessing about feeling nervous about performing in front of the legend, Patrick Stewart, Cavill mentioned how he ultimately bombed the audition. Adding another great opportunity to his list of lost projects, the British actor discussed how it shaped his perspective.

Henry Cavill Confessed Being Intimidated By Patrick Stewart

Henry Cavill being from DC and Patrick Stewart being from Marvel, once had the opportunity to work together, in the 2003 historic drama The Lion in Winter. However, blame it on Cavill, but the actor lost the opportunity to appear alongside the legend, due to his flubbed audition.

Feeling intimidated by Patrick Stewart, Cavill discussed the incident with the actor, years later during a Variety interview. “I’d been acting for three years, I was incredibly nervous to audition in front of an actor of your caliber.” the 40-year-old stated. Revealing how he felt disheartened after losing the opportunity, the British actor shared the incident.

I had spent weeks learning my lines, and by the time I got in there, I’d whipped myself into such a frenzy that I completely flubbed the audition. I forgot how to act, and then I left with my tail in between my legs.” Henry Cavill shared.

While the failed audience nearly broke Cavill’s spirit, the actor recalled the words Stewart spoke to him, that shaped his perspective and gave him motivation. “I did another audition. It wasn’t good enough to get the job, but it was far better. You said, ‘I’m so glad that you came back,’ and that gave me such strength throughout my career” the DC star shared. 

Despite multiple attempts, the Enola Holmes actor failed to get the role in The Lion in Winter. However, his audition with the legendary Patrick Stewart certainly shaped his career.
