Mad Men actor Jon Hamm has given us an Emmy-winning drama. He brought to us, Don Draper. And he has graced the screens alongside Tom Cruise in the film that revived the film industry aka 2022’s summer blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick. But through it all, the actor from the Midwest has hardly had an inspiring story to tell in his rise to the top rungs of Hollywood. The tragic beginnings which need no delving into did give birth to a star and in his shadow, rumors grow: not of his great achievements or industry endeavors but about being rather well-endowed and preferring to, as they say, go commando on set.
Jon Hamm Addresses Rumors About Underwear & Briefs
Jon Hamm, in his first interview with radio show host Howard Stern spoke about anything and everything that has defined him as an actor and shaped him as a person throughout the years. And a career highlight for Hamm is incomplete if the actor fails to acknowledge one of the greatest legends that have followed him around from the Mad Men sets: Jon Hamm prefers to avoid underwear. Upon being prodded on further on the subject by Stern’s co-host, Hamm responds:
“I have worn underwear every single day of my life, who doesn’t wear underwear? I love a comfy boxer brief… I like a breathable cotton.”
Although this confirmation straight from the horse’s mouth puts to rest any further deliberation on the matter, it somehow feels anti-climactic to finally have an answer and one that does not level up to the mass consensus that has for so long been considered as an established fact.
Jon Hamm Finds Sudden Fame After a Restless Decade
Almost overnight, Jon Hamm’s status was upgraded from relative anonymity to global and critical fame. Not only was Don Draper now a household name but Jon Hamm became a universally acknowledged sex symbol. With Mad Men‘s growing fame, Hamm too grew before finally leaving the nest and testing the Hollywood waters and its never-ending genres. As he would go on to find out, being a recognized face does take one a long way although he maintains that looks can only get one so far and it certainly did not land him in front of a director’s lens.
After two defining tragedies rocked his early childhood and late teen years, Hamm kept finding his way back to acting – first a scholarship to college, then a teaching job, and later L.A. However, it would take him a “million auditions” before he would even find a part that can be considered worthy of adding to one’s resume. But his part on the NBC drama, Providence opened a lot of doors for Hamm in the coming years, eventually guiding him to the first of seven auditions for Mad Men which then established him in the industry.
Mad Men is available for streaming on IMDb TV.
