The actor shared the footage on a show, where he was seen running off the ramp leading to a broken ankle. The video made his colleagues and the viewers queasy.

Tom Cruise revealed the reason for his broken ankle in Mission Impossible 6 stunt

The Hollywood megastar graced The Graham Norton Show for promotion of his film Mission: Impossible – Fallout. He was accompanied by co-stars Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, and Henry Cavill. In the episode, he was asked about his ankle injury caused due to a dangerous stunt in the film. Tom Cruise shared,

“It’s still broken, but I’m doing well. It’s not fully healed, but we’re shooting.”

On the show, Tom Cruise brought footage of the incident, captured from three different cameras. In the scene, he raced across the roof of a building to jump on another as he was chasing Cavill’s character.

Knight and Day actor explained,

“I’m wearing two wires. They’re basically just safety wires because I go at a full tilt and I’m sprinting as hard as I can and I hit the side of the wall and that’s the stunt.”

“I didn’t want to do it again. I knew instantly it was broken.”

He shared that the shot was worth it as director Christopher McQuarrie had received his money shot.

“That profile shot, both those shots are in the movie.”

The first camera footage showed the moment from behind, and the second was the money shot where there was clear footage of Cruise’s ankle bending a bit too far. The third footage was from the front and showed how Tom Cruise pulled himself up and ran with a broken ankle.

Tom Cruise’s co-star reacts to the footage from Mission Impossible 6

Cruise shared in the interview,

“I was chasing Henry and was meant to hit the side of the wall and pull myself over, but the mistake was my foot hitting the wall,” he explained. “I knew instantly my ankle was broken, and I really didn’t want to do it again, so just got up and carried on with the take. I said, ‘It’s broken. That’s a wrap. Take me to hospital, and then everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangement.”

Actress Rebecca Ferguson quipped,

“I made a baby. I had six months at least I knew.”

Ferguson was in a relationship with businessman Rory St. Clair Gainer since 2016. They had a daughter together in May 2018 and married by the end of the year.

Production was temporarily halted on the latest Mission: Impossible in August to give Cruise enough time to get back on his feet.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout was released in July 2018. It grossed $800 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing installments of the franchise.
