While most would think that the reason the actress hates method acting is because of her movie Hereditary, the actress regards her $8 million movie with Game of Thrones actor Paddy Considine as the reason why she despises method acting.

Most notable actors in Hollywood and the rest of the world are known to follow method acting as a means to portray their characters the best. While it does result in some of the best portrayals and best characters ever, it is detrimental to one’s mental health. Even the illustrious actress Toni Collette despises the craft.

It was after her work in the $8 million movie, Miss You Already, that the actress was truly sure that method acting is utterly bullsh*t.

“I’m in no way method, whatever that means. I think that is actually total bullsh*t. I mean it’s utter wankery. I don’t understand why people either try to sell the idea that they do that, or convince themselves that they do that — I mean, everyone has their own process, but I’m much more instinctive… You don’t really have to kind of work hard to make it a reality. I don’t draw on personal things intentionally, that kind of feels like a bit cheap and somewhat of a betrayal.”

While her statements in fact hold true, each actor has their own way and approach to acting, which are in no way greater or lesser than the other.

Having done multiple notable movies, Toni Collete revealed that it was her role in Miss You Already that she struggled with the most. Even after years of the movie, the actress was unable to let go of the character and felt she really need to take care of herself better.

“The Staircase, I was fine. Hereditary, I was fine. The job that made me realize I needed to take better care of myself was Miss You Already, where I played a character who ultimately died from cancer. A year and a half later, I still found myself thinking about it, and I was like, ‘this is not right, I shouldn’t be carrying it around in any way’. So, I just had to figure out a way to take care of myself – which I did, and I do.”

Collette stated as she realized that taking care of herself throughout the shoot was way better than constantly method acting. No matter what her approach to acting is, the Hereditary actress is doing much better now while delivering excellent performances.

Miss You Already is available to rent on Apple TV.
