Jennifer’s Body was an interesting film for Megan Fox at the time of release. It was fairly early in her acting career, and director Karyn Kusama tapped her to play a demonic high school girl going on a killing spree. Despite not being commercially successful at the time, the film has now developed a cult following and is considered a bonafide feminist gem.

Now, the writer of the film Diablo Cody wants to make a sequel to the film. The writer talked to Bloody Disgusting about finding someone to believe in the material and also pointed out the love that the film has gotten over the years. She said,

“Yes! I want to do a sequel. I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find…I need to partner with people who believe it in [sic] as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.

At first, I just thought, oh where was this audience when I needed it and then I realized they were like…seven,” Cody said. “And then some people who maybe didn’t appreciate it at the time have come around and now I’m just like, there’s no saltiness, now I’m just happy.”

Writers are finding it hard to pitch studios about original projects that are not a part of an IP or that do not seem commercially viable. However, with the continuing love for Jennifer’s Body over the years, the second film will have more legs than the first at the box office. It remains to be seen whether Cody manages to find someone to back up the project.

Megan Fox played Jennifer Check in 2009’s Jennifer’s Body, a young woman possessed by the devil. In an interview with WWD, the actress revealed that her character and her mannerisms were a perfect representation of who she was at that age. Fox further claimed that she was the poppy and confused young girl like Jennifer in the film, who also had a dark side to her. She said,

“I feel like that’s such a good representation of who I am in general. [B]efore she was turned into a demon and she became this Goth icon, [Jennifer] was this poppy, typical cheerleader, Forever 21 girl. She was that typical girl who then there was this other side to her where she became the sort of demon sorceress. And I am both of those things, and I always have been.”
